Doctrinal Statement
Sin entered the world through Adam. Since that time everyone has sinned, acting independently from God, rebelling against His authority. Because God loved people so much, He promised the patriarchs that He would provide a way to bring people back to Himself. The patriarchs waited in faith. In the fullness of time, God sent His Son, a part of the Trinity, to earth. Jesus was born as a man and lived a life that was fully submitted to God. Even during his painful death, Jesus never rebelled. In His death, Jesus took the sins of the world on himself. God raised him on the third day and Jesus now sits at the Father’s right hand, interceding and waiting for his triumphant return to the earth. Jesus provided the propitiation for the sins of all who realize they cannot approach God on their own goodness and who call on the name of Jesus. After accepting Jesus Christ as savior, the Holy Spirit indwells the believer and upon death, the person’s soul enters heaven to be in God’s presence forever, rather than Hell, away from God.
Helping Parishioners Access Mental Health Care
In America, healthcare access is through employer owned health insurance policies. You may find yourself in a situation of needing to refer a person or family for help. As you consider what direction to head, the first step is prayer, asking God to direct you. Insurance companies typically have a list of counselors that identify themselves as Christian. Remember, the term Christian has different meanings to different people. Additionally, you may print out Guide to Counseling Resources in St. Louis which list more agencies. Other resources that may be of help to your parishioners have been provided in respect to grief, shelters and safehouses, substance abuse treatment, as well as food pantries and emergency funds. Dr. Park has not met with each of the agencies listed on this guide. Many of them have some funding that allows them to accept minimal payment. If God directs you to call Sparrow Psychological Services to refer a person, we will also pray to God for His direction regarding the acceptance of that client.
Clergy as Client
Sparrow Psychological Services offers a private entrance for the treatment of clergy and their families to afford them additional confidentiality as needed.
